Considerations regarding species distribution models for forest insects

چکیده
Species distribution models, or SDMs, have become important decision support tools by answering fundamental questions about where species, including invasive are likely to survive and thrive based on environmental conditions. For an inexperienced modeller model reviewer, the terminology technical aspects of SDMs can be overwhelming, even well-trained modellers struggle understand implications various modelling choices. Here, I outline some key considerations with respect focusing their application forest insects. Foremost, assert that a should developed evaluated attention relationships between insect its hosts, as those determine much places may occupy. In my view, most successful models constructed carefully incorporate honest assessments limitations, sources error uncertainty, degree linkage real-world circumstances it is meant portray.

Development and Comparison of Species Distribution Models for Forest Inventories
A comparison of several statistical techniques common in species distribution modeling was developed during this study to evaluate and obtain the statistical model most accurate to predict the distribution of different forest tree species (in our case presence/absence data) according environmental variables. During the process we have developed maximum entropy (MaxEnt), classification and regre...
متن کاملTesting models for equilibrium distribution and abundance of insects
The Kean–Barlow model predicts how the equilibrium distribution and abundance of a population may be affected by local rates of increase, dispersal, colonisation, and extinction. Here, the model is parameterised for three insects: the Glanville fritillary Melitaea cinxia in Åland, Finland, the ribbonwood aphid Paradoxaphis plagianthi in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the coxella weevil Hadramph...
متن کاملValidating distribution models for twelve endemic bird species of tropical dry forest in western Mexico
Considering the high biodiversity and conservation concerns of the tropical dry forest, this study aim is to predict and evaluate the potential and current distributions of twelve species of endemic birds which distribute along the western slope of Mexico. The main goal is to evaluate altogether different methods for predicting actual species distribution models (ADMs) of the twelve species inc...
متن کاملPseudoabsence Generation Strategies for Species Distribution Models
BACKGROUND Species distribution models require selection of species, study extent and spatial unit, statistical methods, variables, and assessment metrics. If absence data are not available, another important consideration is pseudoabsence generation. Different strategies for pseudoabsence generation can produce varying spatial representation of species. METHODOLOGY We considered model outcom...
متن کاملSpecies distribution modelling of invasive alien species; Pterois miles for current distribution and future suitable habitats
The present study aims to predict the potential geographic distribution and future expansion of invasive alien lionfish (Pterois miles) with ecological niche modelling along the Mediterranean Sea. The primary data consisted of occurrence points of P. miles in the Mediterranean and marine climatic data layers were collected from global databases. All the used models run 100% su...
